Year in Review 2024

Our Team

2024 saw the addition of 12 new full time members to our team, spread across our 3 offices in London, Kitchener, and St. Thomas and even a couple of remote employees! Our new team members are tackling challenges across our entire business, including new administrators, structural designers and engineers, and structural and civil technologists. Two of our most unique hires were the Agile Delivery Coaches that lead our Agile project methodology across our teams in a continuous push for improved quality, efficiency, and speed.

Our London and Kitchener offices also welcomed 2 new co‑op students this year. It was great having both and seeing their incredible growth just in their times with us, and we wish them the best of luck in their studies as they continue their journeys!

Where is coelevate?

London:

As you know, co‑elevate’s main office is located in London, ON. However, with the continual growth of the company, we considered relocating to a larger space to continue building and fostering our collaborative environment.

We are excited to be MOVING to London’s core in 2025! The new London office is currently being renovated but is nearing completion. Stay tuned and follow our socials to stay updated about our move day, open houses, and other exciting announcements!

Kitchener:

Just last year, co‑elevate opened its second location in Kitchener, ON. Since then, our Kitchener office started running out of room, so this year we moved to a new unit, bigger, and more vibrant unit in the building. The new space is ready to serve our continued growth in the KW region for years to come!

St. Thomas:

In late 2024, the St. Thomas office opened for business. We are excited to be located in the heart of St. Thomas on Talbot Street. We were thrilled to see the community support and how many people visited with kind words during Light up Talbot! We are excited to support the growth of the St. Thomas community.

Project Highlights

Expanding our team doesn’t just mean we met more people, also means we’ve accomplished even more than last year! With the help of our innovative Agile Delivery Coaches, our teams have been more efficient and focused, allowing them to complete more work in the same time with less stress. In 2024, our teams were able to deliver over 140 projects or major phases of projects across 6 different provinces and territories: Ontario, Nunavut, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

Below are a few project highlights from 2024:

Residential Building, Concrete Walls, Structural Engineering

Compass Point is a 93,750 sq. ft., six-storey residential building located in Port Stanley, ON. The structure features a cast-in-place concrete shear wall system, complemented by Hambro floor system for enhanced strength and efficiency. Light gauge steel stud walls were used where possible to reduce cost and improve installation speed.

Long term care, Structural Engineering

New Long-Term Care (LTC) facilities – in 2024, co‑elevate had almost 2 million sq. ft. of long term care projects under design or in construction! These include projects in Ajax, Stouffville, Milton, Ottawa, Delhi, Peterborough, Oakville, and many more! Milton LTC, shown here, is a 140,000 sq. ft., 3-storey LTC located in Milton, ON. These LTCs employ a structural system suited to each building, typically using a mixture of conventional concrete foundations, reinforced masonry or concrete shear walls, and precast hollowcore floors and roofs to provide a durable, long lasting structure for our elders.

Element5 in St. Thomas, ON, will be the largest timber manufacturing plant in Canada when the expansion construction is completed. An impressive 324,680 sq. ft. Is being added to the existing plant to exponentially increase the growth and manufacture of mass timber. This area includes the office addition, the main plant expansion, and a separate sorting building.

The main plant expansion features concrete grade beams and unreinforced circular concrete caissons for foundations. Massive moment frames provide lateral stability while OWSJ and metal decking enclose the roof. One sector of the plant even boasts a distinctive fish belly glulam framing system to reflect Element5’s expertise in timber. This project represents a monumental step forward for timber manufacturing and industrial facility design.

Mount Salem Christian School in Mount Salem, ON, is a brand-new elementary school completed in 2024. Spanning 38,000 sq.ft., the structure incorporates a combination of structural systems, including steel, timber, and masonry, blending durability with thoughtful design. Structural Engineering, Residential building, affordable housing

Southwood Way Affordable Housing is a 49,000 sq. ft. affordable housing residential building located in Woodstock, ON. The four-storey structure, with an additional livable basement, features conventional concrete foundations, reinforced masonry shear walls, and precast slabs that ensure efficient construction and durability.

PeopleCare Delhi is a 67,960 sq. ft., two-storey long-term care facility located in Delhi, ON. Designed to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for residents, the building features conventional concrete foundations and hollowcore precast slabs, ensuring structural integrity and efficiency. The walls are constructed using a combination of insulated concrete forms (ICF) and formed cast-in-place reinforced concrete.

Timber design

Teen Challenge Residence is a 13,290 sq. ft. timber framed residence located at the charity’s London, ON location just south of the city. Designed to provide a welcoming and supportive environment, the structure is built on conventional concrete foundations. Engineered wood trusses and timber shear and bearing walls were combined to give a lightweight, sustainable, and efficient structural system that will serve the charity well!

Northern and Arctic communities continue to be a major focus, and we completed 20 projects across Nunavut this year! This included pile designs, full building designs, construction services, and site visits depending on the needs of the community and our clients.

Thank you for teaming up with us in 2024, we are looking forward to a new year with new goals, achievements, and collaboration. See you all in 2025!
