Element5 is the first CLT production facility in Ontario! This almost 400,000 sq. ft. facility enables a dramatic increase in CLT and glulam production right in our back yard. The entire facility was constructed using OWSJ, steel beams, and steel columns supported on cast-in-place concrete foundations, and feature huge crane beams that run the production lines. Several bays of the building are even framed using massive 22m long, 2.5m deep glulam beams produced by Element5 themselves.
The exposed glulam beams highlight the end product to the production team while providing a unique feel to what would normally be a spartan fabrication space. The office and showroom will showcase mass timber, it's uses, and various design options, all using actual products and real world structural connections. The future looks sustainable and bright with the continued expansion of CLT and other mass timber framing in Ontario.
